Surajit Roy Majumder
Surajit Roy Majumder, born in Bangladesh, received a master’s degree in English. He worked briefly as a journalist, then joined the civil service and taught in public colleges. Along with designing national language curricula, he has co-authored a dozen of English textbooks, worked as an official translator and editor of textbooks and was a publishing coordinator. He has also presented research papers, edited journals/magazines, published articles, short fictions and poems in Bengali and English from Dhaka and Toronto. His publications include ‘Kanadar Kobita’ (Canadian poetry in Bengali translation, Dhaka, 2021), ‘Shotoborshe Dhaka Bishwabidyalaya: Nimnoborger Binirman’ (Dhaka University at Hundred: Subaltern Deconstruction, Dhaka, 2022).

Bengali’s literary venture in Canadian literature
Down my university days as an out-going literature graduate in early 1990s, I once met a Canadian tourist with the last name ‘Dawson’ in a downtown Dhaka restaurant who was returning from South East Asia spending his Summer vacation teaching English in a Thailand school.
